Episode 1 of The Little Paris Kitchen

Monday March 19th marked the first of six episodes of The Little Paris Kitchen!  BBC2 viewers joined me as I began my journey through the city, sharing my versions of French classic recipes and some of my favourite places in Paris.

In this first episode, you get a look at my tiny flat located in the eclectic quartier of Belleville. We spent lots of time in my petite cuisine, the heart of my home restaurant. For my first recipe, I start with one of my favourite French inspired snacks, a Croque Madame muffin that is perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside.

As spring is arriving, you’ll want to shed the heavy winter stews in favor of lighter and fresher versions, like my spring lamb stew.  I add my special twist to it with a refreshing side of mint sauce. I also head to a Moroccan café in the Marche des Enfants Rouges, where I learn from an expert, other ways to use fresh mint, such as thé à la menthe, a great drink to serve at the end of a meal.  Next, I show you how to transform a classic smoky French stew, the Coq au Vin, into a light summer friendly recipe on a skewer, perfect for the barbecue.

I head to the very top of the Grand Palais, one of the best places for beekeeping in Paris, to meet beekeeper Nicholas, where I source the honey for my raspberry studded madeleines with a melting lemon curd centre. These are one of my favourite afternoon treats, which I love to share with friends over a cup of tea.

Watch below to learn how to make the perfect Croque Madame muffin:

I love the French inspired music in the show–listen to one of these songs and you’ll feel like you’re strolling along the Seine!

Ever Fallen in Love – Nouvelle Vague

Riddim I like – Asian Dub Foundation
