On my bookshelf - 100 Cookery Postcards (plus giveaway)
I have a vast cookery book collection, but there's something about older books that's really special.
Earlier this year John Hamilton, the Art Director of my cookbooks (The Little Paris Kitchen and My Little French Kitchen), and I were working together on the shoot of my next book, Rachel Khoo's Kitchen Notebook. We were chatting away at the shoot and John told me about his exciting book project, Cookery Postcards: 100 Postcards in One Box.
Being an avid vintage cookery cookbook collector myself I couldn't help but give him my one of my favourite vintage books, Abalone to Zabaglione - Unusual and Exotic recipes, by Edna Beilenson (published in 1957!). I love the simplicity and bright colours of this cover and am very excited to see it amongst John's fantastic selection.
Unsurprisingly, John has an even vaster cookery book collection than I - over 1,000 to date, fuelled by his passion for art, illustration and books. Thanks to this, the postcards range from iconic works by the likes of Elizabeth David, to more obscure ones such as Recipes rare from Everywhere by Mrs Peto.
A snapshot of just some of John's beautiful collection!
