I’m coming to The Garlic Festival (Giveaway closed)

The garlic queen, IOW festival

I’m very excited to announce that I’ll be cooking in the food theatre this August at the Garlic Festival, the Isle of Wight’s foodie festival. I’ll be signing books as part of the Sunday line-up too, and am just really looking forward to being part of a real foodie weekend.

The festival will be running on the 15th and 16th of August, and you can find out more about it over on the Garlic Festival website.

Giveaway alert!Β Thanks to the lovely organisers of the festival, I am giving away 2 sets ofΒ free tickets for you and 3 of your friends. The two winners of the competition will also be invited to hop up onstage with me and help out in my little kitchen!

To win, all you need to do is comment belowΒ and tell me what recipes you would like to see demonstrated in the Garlic Festival Theatre Kitchen. Maybe there is a recipe you have always wanted to be able to make but haven’t known where to begin? Let me know! The best answers will be picked at the end of July so get your thinking caps on!

Looking forward to reading your suggestions – best of luck!

You can also comment or tweet your entries to me on Facebook and Twitter.

Small print: The competition will close on the Monday 27th July. Please only enter if you will be able to get to the Isle of Wight on August 15th and 16th for the festival.

There are 8 tickets available only, 4 each for the 2 winners.

If you can, include a valid email address with your entry. You will be contacted by email or via social media if you win.

The winners will be chosen and notified after the closing date. They will then be contacted directly.

A limited time frame will be given for winners to accept the prize. If in the event a prize is unclaimed within 2 days, a new recipient will be drawn at random.

  1. I have tried to make my own pasta (from scratch) in the past, but it always comes out wrong. I would love to cook a tasty seafood tagliatelle dish with lots of garlic, prawns mussles etc.
    Cheers,Mr G Jaeger-Wright

  2. I was going to stick to Garlic Bread but then I figured why stop there?

Spanish Garlic soup (Sopa de Ajo?) made with garlic bread with a dollop of Garlic Aioli?

At least it would fit the party..

  3. A cassoulet please! I worked in a lovely french restaurant in Norwich for 2 years which has sadly closed now and this is where I learned that I loved French food! The cassoulet was so wonderful and I haven’t been able to make one like it as of yet so that would be amazing!

  4. I would like to see a rendang cooked from scratch. Or even a rendang recipe that is simple. Failing that, a good laksa. These are traditional dishes from where I come from which I have never felt I could replicate as they are the food of Gods.

  5. I’ve been veggie for almost a year and am a garlicholic! I’m fine cooking it with a usual spag bol etc but would love some ideas on using garlic in cold foods such as salads. Watch out work colleagues! Garlic breath is here again! πŸ™‚

  6. Would love to cook with you Rachel I am an intense foodie with a passion for cooking would love to cook something from A Cook Abroad

  7. Rachel!! I’m the 1st! And on 15th is my birthday! It would be so so cool… πŸ™‚

Well, I’m from Spain, here, you know, we love garlic. In fact, most of spanish dishes are cooked with garlic! And I don’t know many recipes without garlic! I think the garlic is as important as salt or olive oil in a typical Spanish kitchen.

So, if I were you I would surprise everyone with your recipe of “Burnt leek parcels with a romesco sauce”. I have never done this “dish” (newspaper?XD) and I think it would be super funny! I see the beautiful and huge grills that there are in the Garlic Festival. They are perfect to do this recipe and it is the typical way to do the famous CalΓ§otada, the inspiration of your recipe. And romesco sauce is full of smoked garlic (in the ember), you have to profit all this tools or facilities that the Garlic Festival has.

What do you think? I don’t know what kind of recipes you need, yours/new, easy to do/more elaborated, how many I can propose…? I can propose more recipes!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    I hope see you soon… can’t wait! πŸ™‚

  8. Hello Rachel, I am writing you from Turkey and I am proud to announce that I am probably the best fan of you in Turkey! And luckily, I will be in Southampton/UK from the beginning of August for a year and as I see, Southampton is nearby the Isle of Wight. It’d be a great opportunity to meet my favorite cook as soon as I land to UK. Anyway, as a recipe with garlic which I should recommend to join the fest and see you, the first thing comes to my mind is bread with garlic; of course with your distinct version. Hope to see you soon πŸ™‚

  10. I am returning ‘home’ to the Island for the Garlic Festival Weekend as I now live in Edinburgh. I am bringing my partner with me who is in awe of the idea of an entire festival centred around Garlic!

He’s most intrigued to try Garlic Ice-Cream : So I’d love to see an easy home-made way incorporate that into a desert dish for a dinner party when we return home.. with our IoW Garlic of course!

  11. Hi Rachel,

I would love to learn how to make no-fail aioli with my eyes closed. Well, maybe not the last bit, but if I could easily whisk up some garlic aioli from the ingredients in my kitchen and not have it split, I would be a very happy person indeed.

As a side note, my absolute favourite food is garlic bread, though I thought that might be a tad too simple for a cooking demo. I recently started a garlic bread blog that follows my garlic bread eating adventures around the world. πŸ™‚ https://thegarlicbreadclub.wordpress.com/

Going to a garlic festival would be my dream! (Definitely worth a feature mention on my blog.)

    Thanks!

    Claire

  12. I would love to see you make the Wild Garlic Ravioli and Crab. Great dish for sharing, and it uses garlic – what’s not to like?

    Fingers crossed.

    all the best

  14. Hi
I think a picnic theme would be great:
I would love to see you make your Wild garlic ravioli with crab recipe and it would be great for a picnic. I’ve never heard of using garlic leaves so it would be really interesting to see, possibly have a taste and get some suggestions of other leaves that could be used.

To keep on the picnic theme it would be really fun to see your take on petit fours (sweet or savoury). I am sure you will have a twist on the French classics to make them a real show stopper at a picnic.

And lastly for pud how about Bichon au citron – I love all things lemon!
See you for a great weekend.
    Sally

  15. To be honest there is no one recipe that I would like to see made as all the recipes in the little Paris kitchen looked delicious that it would be great to see them made again and in person.

  16. I would love to learn how to make smoked garlic oil to pour over various dishes, maybe with basil or other herbs added. I’m sure you could create something wonderful with the various types of garlic from the Island. X X

  17. Even though I’m entering this, its really on behalf of my son who is 10 years old and a huge cooking enthusiast. He would be over the moon to see you at the Garlic Festival. The most unusual garlic recipe we have ever eaten is Black Garlic Icecream, it was really lovely and had an almost caramel coffee flavour…..probably not the easier one to be demonstrated at a summer festival though πŸ™‚ so we have decided that we would love to learn how to make a really nice garlic soup.

  18. i would love to see any of the recipes from the little paris kitchen as loved all of them, or anything with the local garlic and produce from the island, would just be great

  19. Hello, I live on the isle of Wight, and we’re looking forward to the garlic festival very much! I’ve always been too scared to try making SouflΓ©e, so I’d love to see a demonstration of that πŸ™‚

  20. Hi Rachel, I live on the Island and would love to be able to make an entire 3 course meal using Garlic in every course. From Elephant to smoked or just plain wight, some ideas would be amazing. Thank you.

  21. Hello Rachel. I come to the Garlic Festival every year. It is a great event and you will really enjoy it. As for what to cook – well anything innovative as my cooking skills are poor to say the least xxx

  22. I would love to see you make a strawberry & Cream layer cake which is ideal for summer, Or a Summer Berry Yorkshire Pudding as I am originally from Yorkshire but I now live on the Isle of Wight, So a take on the “ole Yorkshire Pud” would be great to see.

  23. Hi, I would love to learn how to make garlic soup and how to use garlic in a salad without over powering it. I would love to come to the garlic festival, it would be an honour to meet you Rachel. P.S: loving the you tube video’s!

    Best of luck πŸ™‚

    Yours tastefully,:P πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

  24. A nice tasty stir fry with lots of fresh veg, peppers garlic etc. always fancy it but never know where to start, and with a husband who wont eat veg it’s difficult to experiment.

  25. Hi Rachel-
in this case, do ramps (ramson) count as garlic? I have heard that cows fed on ransom produce garlic-flavored milk which can then be churned into garlic butter. That is what I would like to see/help demonstrate.
    All the best,
    Deidra

  26. I love cooking Thai recipes but for some reason I can never get the noodles right. Please help me with a stir fry or something like that.

  27. Garlic! Garlic! Garlic! I love it! How about cooking something where garlic is the centrepiece? Roasted garlic salad? Garlic tart or a garlic rub for meat?

  28. Hi Rachael I’m coming to the garlic festival for the first time and would love to see you cook a Beef Wellington with a garlic pate instead of mushroom
